Online 3 Card Brag Rules

The game of 3 card brag online is a relatively new concept which takes it roots from traditional brag. The idea of the game is to get, or imply that you have, the best possible three card hand.

At the start of each online game, the player to the left of the dealer pays a small blind to enter the game, with the player seated to his left paying the big blind. Similar to poker, the deal rotates clockwise around the board and, similar to poker, there are advantages of holding the button and being the last to act (see  Three Card Brag Strategy).

Three cards are dealt face down to each player and the first betting round begins. The player to the left of the big blind has the option of calling the blind, raising the bet or folding his cards. Play continues around the table until each player has called, raised or folded – for a maximum of three raises, again similar to the way in which flop limit Texas Hold´em betting progresses.

After the first round of betting is complete, players have the options of changing any or all of their cards or standing pat (changing none). A second round of betting takes place, this time starting with the player in the small blind position and with the bet size twice what it was in the opening round – for example, in a £1.00/£2.00 game, where the small blind is £1.00 and the big blind is £2.00, the first round of betting will be in multiples of £2.00. The second round of betting will be in multiples of £4.00.

Once the second round of betting is completed, there is a showdown between the players still remaining in the game, with the best hand winning the pot.

Betting Blind
The rules of three card brag offer the unique option of betting blind which means that during the first round of betting, players can call bets for half the bet size if they not yet looked at their cards (the default option on many casino and bookmaker sites). Players who choose to take advantage of this option are not allowed to raise – only call or fold – but are allowed to look at their cards at any time and then revert back to the regular bet staking.

Players can continue to play blind through the second round of betting if they wish, although this is not recommended as a successful three card brag betting strategy.

Three card brag is an intriguing card game, played with many of the same skills needed in poker, but quicker and with fewer prime hands claiming potentially substantial pots. The online version of the game has been sterilised to make it easier for Internet players familiar with poker to adapt to, yet still retains some nice British eccentric touches to retain its uniqueness and appeal.
