Video Poker Online, How & Where To Play
Video poker is one of the easiest games to play whether it’s online or at a brick and mortar casino. This article focuses on a few things. It explains where to play video poker online for real money, how to play the game, the hand rankings and finally, we offer an FAQ guide for some of the more popular questions about the game.
How to Play
Video poker is extremely easy to play, although if you’re new to the game, we suggest you stick with the single hand video poker games rather than multi-hand. If you want to play online, check out the casinos listed above. They all support video poker games for real money or free, which is great for beginners.
To begin, you will need to insert your money into the machine and select the denomination you want to bet. Most machines will allow you to bet one to five credits, with five credits needed to qualify for a jackpot win.
Once you have your money and decided your bet, hit the deal button. The game will deal you five cards (by random). From there you will be able to select which cards you want to “hold” and which you want to play again.
Once you’ve received your new cards (assuming you didn’t hold all of them), the game will tell you your hand, at which point you will be paid based on the pay table provided.
It’s also worth noting that online video poker machines offer a “Game Speed” button with one to three settings. Basically, this is for players that intend to play more than just a few hands and want the game to automatically re-bet for them as well as deal the cards. It saves you time, but can cost more if you happen to have a bad session as the game will play out faster.

Video Poker Hand Rankings
Video poker hand rankings are the same across the board and are based off of the best five card poker hand. Most video poker games play the game as five card draw, although there are some video poker machines that play a different variation but in the end, the best five card hand holds out across all machines.
Normally we would list a pay table for a game, but the pay tables for online video poker games vary from one game to the next. For this reason, we’ve listed pay tables only on game reviews.
Royal Flush – The Royal Flush is the best possible hand you can have playing video poker and likewise pays the most. A royal flush consists of A-K-Q-J-10 of the same suit.
Straight Flush – A Straight Flush is the second best hand next to the royal. This hand can consist of sequential cards of the same suit in order. This means anything from 2 through 6, 9 through K, etc.
Four of a Kind – A Four of a Kind in real money video poker pays around 20 x your bet. To receive a four of a kind hand you must have four cards of the same rank (e.g 4s – 4h – 4d – 4c)
Full House – A full house consists of two cards of the same rank and three cards of another rank. An example of a full house hand in video poker would be 5s 5c Kd Ks Kh
Straight – To win with a “Straight” when playing video poker online for cash, your hand must have a run of five cards. This hand is exactly the same as the straight flush, however the five cards can be any suit.
Three Of A Kind – A “Three of a Kind” is exactly that, three cards of the same rank. A three of a kind payout averages 3 x your bet
Two Pair – Two pairs is one of the more common hands you can receive playing video poker and pays roughly 2 x your bet. An example of two pairs is As Ad 10h 9s 9c
A Pair – A pair is the lowest paying hand in video poker. To win with a pair or better you must have a pair of jacks or better.

Are online video poker games rigged? How do I know the game isn’t fixed?
You will want to look for a legitimate and safe online casino before you play video poker for real money. The safest casinos online are licensed in a regulated market, submit to regular audits and are tested by a third party. The third party companies perform regular audits to ensure the games are 100% safe.
Can you use a strategy to win at video poker?
Of course! The games online offer the same games as those at your regular casino if not more. If you use a strategy to play Jacks or Better, you can use it online as well.
Is online video poker the same as playing at a Vegas casino?
Yes. The games have the same interface, same hand rankings, same graphics and same options as the Vegas games.
Can I play for real money and how do I get my winnings?
If you want to make the jump from free games to real money video poker games, you will need to find a casino that you trust, and one that accepts a payment method that works for you. For example, not all US casinos accept credit cards, but some do. You need to find out which ones before downloading and creating a new account.
Likewise, Canadian and European players have different payment methods. When you win, you will likely need to complete a form to confirm your identity before your cashout or send in identification to have it processed. This is a security measure to ensure each player is who they say they are. Once done, you can expect to receive your winnings via an ewallet, credited back to your credit card or by check.
Are there any US casinos with these games?
Yes, although not many. The top video poker online casinos accepting USA players are www.BetOnline.com, CasinoTitan.com and WinPalace.com. Remember to check the wagering requirements for each casino before accepting a bonus. In most cases, it’s best to opt out of the bonus.
Yes. Every online casino offers free video poker games online. We do to. Check out our list of free casino games here if you want to test out the games first before downloading any software.
Are the hand rankings the same as regular casinos? Are the payouts the same?
Yes, the hand rankings are exactly the same regardless of whether you’re playing at your local casino or on the internet. The only difference between the two may be the payouts. Please check the payout chart first before playing the games.
